Pros

- Superb networking opportunities - Lifelong friendships - Vital knowledge gained through "insider" speakers/presenters - Real-time skills taught and practiced

Cons

- Support network was often more hypothetical than reality-based - Long, exhausting hours with little time for rest - Little to no transparency between upper-level organizers and interns

Pros

It's in Portland, OR. They set you up with a homestay (if you're lucky, you will get a nice homestay and/or will only have to move twice that summer). They introduce you to the Political world in Portland, OR.

Cons

PolitiCorps fellows spend 3 months working 14-hours days, only to get rewarded with $500 pay for that entire summer, and only get 5 days off. The staff encourages the petty high-schoolish rivalries and gossip between the fellows, and buys into it themselves. They endorsed Jefferson Smith for Mayor, who famously beat a woman unconscious and had his license revoked several times. The company perpetuates the closed-mindedness of its fellows and rewards it. The fellowship program and subsequent year-of-service program is based primarily on favoritism and popularity, not on skill.
