Pros

Free sparkling water, coffee, and booze.

Cons

This tiny sorority- I mean workplace is full of mean women. Secrets, backstabbing, and power moves are normal and accepted here. Everything at Pivot Design is monetary and aesthetic, and if you don't fit the script expect to be walked on, taken advantage of, and mentally pushed to your limit. Every day employees think, am I next to be fired? Sadly, I wish this review was an exaggeration. The culture is poisonous, damaging, and dangerous to the mental and emotional health of the employees who work here. Interview at your own risk.

Pivot Design Response

Thank you for taking the time to share your unfortunate experience at Pivot and your perspective of our organization. I wish we would have had the opportunity to meet and discuss your feelings while you were here, as it is an outlier to the experiences and perspectives of not only our current employees, but also of the majority of our past employees. I’m actually extremely proud of the culture we have built. As are the many employees that have been here for 5 and 10+ years (our turnover rate is well below the agency standard). Of course, every organization has its own share of drama and unfortunate circumstances—and I’m not saying we are void of that. But the success and growth we have experienced, particularly over the last 5 years, can also certainly lead to a heightened sense of emotion. Some of that can be negative emotion, which sounds like is in your situation. But the overwhelming majority have been positive emotions—not only felt by our management team (made up of men and women) but also our entire organization (made up of a diverse set of backgrounds, experiences and insights which is heavily encouraged to be shared)—yet all with a common goal, to positively impact the future success and growth of Pivot. Again, thank you for your thoughts, it only makes us strive to make sure we can be our best selves. - Liz

Pros

I have worked at several agencies and Pivot truly sets the bar for talented colleagues. Across all departments, the caliber of the employees is top notch. And not only are they smart, they are kind, caring and collaborative. The Executive Leadership team is also truly dedicated to retaining said talent so there is a focus on competitive benefits, salary and fostering a sense of community and fun. Beyond that, the ELT not only listens, but acts. They solicit feedback and proactively implement that feedback to consistently improve the agency. We recently implemented new agency work flow protocols in direct response to employee feedback. In addition to a talented internal team, Pivot is focused on wellness oriented clients who HELP the world be a better place. If you work at Pivot, you can rest assured that the work you contribute to is important and meaningful. And let’s be honest, agency life can be hard and it is certainly not for everyone. Deadlines and pressure are unavoidable in this line of work. However, the overall work/life balance is VERY fair and if you need help, help will be provided. There is also a very fair mentality in regards to life requirements outside of work. If you need to drop your kid at school or go to the dentist, as long as your work is handled and you have alerted your team, it is not a problem whatsoever.

Cons

Agency life can be unpredictable. If you are not someone who thrives in a fast paced environment and can easily change gears, this is not the right fit.

Pros

The beauty of Pivot is that there is no ceiling and no guard rails for how far you can go and grow. If you are motivated and smart, you will succeed. If you have ideas, you can make them happen. Liz (our President) is not stuck in her ways and is always open to finding better and new ways to do things. You have a voice at Pivot and you are not just a number or a cog in a wheel. She schedules 1:1s with employees at all levels of the agency to hear what they have to say. I've been at 3 other agencies and have never experienced that type of transparency and access to senior management. In terms of employee benefits, Pivot has a very generous vacation policy. Week shut down between xmas and NYE, the typical holidays plus 4 days for Memorial Day, President's day, and summer hours. And Liz genuinely wants people to have a work/life balance. That's not to say there are not the occasional late nights or stressful weeks, but the office is generally empty by 6pm. What other agency can really say that? In my few short years at Pivot, I've truly embraced all the opportunities and challenges that have come my way. Working with smart and fun people sets Pivot apart. We all come together for a common goal to do great work and make our clients happy.

Cons

Expectations are high and if you cannot deliver, it can be stressful. You must learn how to prioritize, be efficient, and be a true team player. If you want to come to work to just earn a pay check and not be productive or push yourself, Pivot is not for you.
