Pros
Great access to communities. Can be a fun environment to work in depending on your branch manager or who is the "In charge" librarian on a daily basis. See and help develop programs for the public even at the bottom level. Everyone is welcome. I have had people from the community in tears telling me how much help we (the library) have been in there life. Doesn't matter if its shelving books, job help, or helping create a email address it has all made me feel important/useful/wanted by the communities of Pima County at one time or another
Cons
Had to get Union involved before HR would listen to multiple complaints about a management level position. there's a difference between protecting management and just out right ignoring your staff. Also because of these situation it leads to lots of Backroom Gossip. Hiring process is becoming about EQ (Emotional quotient) over skills. A "happier" "outgoing" person is more likely to be hired over a straight to the point IQ type.
