Pros

Virtually nothing. You have a job and aren't out on the streets. The work itself isn't stressful and your co-workers aren't atrocious.

Cons

1. CHEAP! I was given a piece of paper with my name on it to designate my work area because they "stopped giving out" plastic placards. You need to order office supplies? Here's some old used garbage that doesn't work. Need some folders? Well, management doesn't like providing supplies so do you REALLY need them or can you somehow manage without? (Hint: you really need them because why else would you have asked) 2. Benefits are an absolute joke. You are given ONE sick day per year. One week's vacation after one year (reasonable), two weeks after two years (okay sure), and then three weeks after TEN YEARS. I worked with a person who was there for decades and decades and they still were only given one sick day per year. Medical, dental, and vision was subpar. The company has a bizarre approach to 401k contributions as well. They do not match. It depends on if they have a "good year," which doesn't need to be justified or proven to their employees. Just take their word for it, they never have a good year. 3. Upper management is too controlling. You are watched and observed like a hawk, unless you're a pet favorite. 4. THE MUSIC! Piggly Wiggly Midwest plays music in their corporate office for some reason I was never able to understand. Sounds innocent enough until they stick to one station and it plays the same thing over and over and over and over all day. It's rather distracting. For me, it was the country station! That's my own personal dislike but I heard complaints from other workers as well. Just turn the thing off and let us do our work in silence. 5. If you're hourly you will be expected to punch-in and you better be EXACT and PRECISE even though there is often a line of people waiting to punch-in and out that can take a couple minutes and your pay WILL reflect that. Good luck being the first one every single time, you robot. 6. There is no office camaraderie. I never once felt like a team member that contributed to something valuable. Do your work and go home. That's their culture.

Pros

Will work with your availability.

Cons

Does not pay any more than $8 an hour (will be $7.38 an hour after social security & Medicare taxes and they don’t do raises). Rude customers. Two (sometimes three) carts full of groceries on food stamp days. Almost no maintenance done to the store (still have outdated registers running the point of sale version of Windows 7). Toilet paper dispensers in the bathrooms are broken and haven’t been replaced in over two months. Training is almost nonexistent. The cashiers actually got more training than I did. Does not do any employee, veterans, or senior citizen discounts. Food is too expensive so I’m not able to afford to shop there. I have to shop elsewhere (Food Lion & Dollar General) just to be able to afford to eat.
