Pros
You do not have to travel between SNFs. You get one location so you are able to build relationships with some of your patients and the staff.
Cons
The expectations are unrealistic. They market it as great job for work/life balance. See 17 patients on average per day (meaning if you take a day off, you have to make up those 17 elsewhere or you don’t get your bonus). Because you are at the building for 7 hrs a day, the nursing staff have direct access to you and this sometimes enables them to quit using critical thinking skills and rely on you for every small symptom that occurs. The NPs who don’t take work home are the ones that copy and paste notes over and do the minimal amount of editing, leaving inaccurate documentation behind. The company is more concerned about keeping their admins and DONs of the SNF happy rather than supporting ethical medical care from their NPs. The company PUSHES for more visits. Encouraging upwards of 25 patients per day. Quantity ($$$) over quality.
