Pros
Cool offices in nice locations with amenities nearby, though the offices themselves are open-concept monstrosities which pack as many engineers in to a space as possible. Some very smart people have worked here over the years, and it's great to be able to work with such top minds, but many/most of them have quit for better companies. Free drinks and snacks. At one time the HR and Facilities teams tried to do fun stuff like happy hours and outings, but now they've all been fired or quit.
They've brought in a new "leadership team" to make decisions, but so far it's the same false hope just with new faces.
Cons
Over the last few months the company has downsized by half at least. Managers don't know what they are doing, have no experience leading. Founding team are academics who do not know how to run a business, and they try to hire capable people, but when someone questions or disagrees with the founders they are let go and the company is told they "didn't fit in" or "they werent any good anyways".
Open-Office concept sucks. No privacy, too loud, too many interruptions. Not enough conference rooms or places to work in small groups or on your own. Long hours, big expectations with no direction, and nothing to show for it.
At one time there was a ton of money in the bank, yet the company still didn't invest in their staff's wellbeing or any kind of professional development, only their research team and executive salaries. stock valuation is a secret. any questions about the board or direction of the company is met with silence. If you do not follow the founders explicit vision, unquestioningly, you will lose any favored status.
