Profit over Everything - Assistant Manager/Kennel Tech Paws at Play Employee Review

Pros

Slightly above average pay for kennel tech

Cons

Profit is the only thing that matters. Staff is not trained or equipped to handle the number of dogs, dogs are put in unsafe situations, and you're forced to lie to clients about the amount of play their dogs got, or how well they did. Dogs are often crated for hours on end while clients think they are outside playing. Dog per handler ratio required by NC law is never followed. Everyone is overworked, constantly understaffed, no one is appreciated, and management is never able to properly support (those that are actually trained for the job).

Pros

All in all, a great place to work. Very flexible with scheduling. Pay was better than I expected and I made a life long friend. I’m still even in touch with clients that went there. It was always awesome working with such a diverse group of people as well.

Cons

I can’t think of anything.

Pros

If you love animals and thrive in a fast-paced environment, Paws at Play is an incredible place to work. Every day brings something new, and the energy is both exciting and fulfilling. The team truly feels like a family everyone is kind, supportive, and works together to create the best experience for the pets and each other. The owner is not only kind and approachable, but also deeply passionate about animal care and the well-being of her team. It’s clear she genuinely cares and puts her heart into everything she does. One thing that sets Paws at Play apart from other daycare and boarding facilities is the company’s commitment to training. The investment in ongoing, hands-on training for staff is unmatched and ensures you feel confident and prepared in your role. Staff appreciation is a real priority here with recognition given often, and the break room is always stocked with snacks (which is a huge morale booster during busy days!). It’s a place where your hard work doesn’t go unnoticed, and where you can grow your skills while doing what you love. I highly recommend Paws at Play to anyone looking for a meaningful, energetic, and supportive workplace in the pet care industry.

Cons

Days can move quickly and be physically demanding, which is great if you like staying active, but might be challenging for someone looking for a slower pace.
