Awesome place to work! - Project Engineer I POWER Engineers Employee Review

Pros

Everyday I work with very talented engineers on challenging projects in a company that has a fun and inclusive culture that makes me feel valued and at home within my department and within the company as a whole. They support you pursuing personal technical development and growing your technical skill set while also working on billable projects. Our management is very selective about projects, clients, and new hires, so we work with great clients on challenging projects along side talented individuals. I think this is largely due to our POWER flex work from home policy. We work remotely with people across the region, so we are able hire the best available. Our department manager does an excellent job with resourcing, and our work load is distributed well so that most of us don't feel overwhelmed, but enjoy staying busy. I've honestly never been happier working anywhere else!

Cons

We're being sold by our existing employee shareholders to WSP which is a publicly owned company with employees who rate it as 3.6/5 rating on this site. So much of what has made POWER engineers a great place to work has been accredited to our grassroots culture and employee ownership that I don't think it will stay this way once we become part of WSP.

Pros

Was a genuinely great place to work. Great people and great culture. It was worth the slightly-lower-than-average pay because work life balance and benefits were great. I enjoyed going to work every day.

Cons

Poor financial decisions from upper management regarding the shareholder program led to the company's demise. Upper management sold out to WSP. Management made millions while long time employees got zilch. As someone else had mentioned, retention bonuses were unfairly distributed. Most people didn't get any retention bonus even if they had been long time employees of the company. It really felt like everyone who wasn't upper management got stabbed in the back. They got their payout then dumped the company. Still stings to this day.
