Pros

If you love animals and want to make a true, measurable impact in the world, PETA is the place for you. While it's inspiring to see the millions of impressions and thousands of media interviews, quotes, and mentions that PETA earns with talented in-house marketing, production, media, & communications teams, it's even more fulfilling to witness the impact made for animals big and small. From the legal division to campaigns to cruelty investigations, every team is doing cutting-edge work that matters. Check the PETA victories page to see what I mean! I'm grateful to the management team who took a chance on an entry-level newbie with passion for the cause and offered (and continue to offer) the training and guidance I needed to thrive and grow in my career--and to SEE the difference I'm making for animals, every day.

Cons

We work really hard, so the pace and volume isn't for everyone (especially anyone looking to coast). There's a lot of training involved, but that brings an opportunity to become an expert in your area and truly begin a fulfilling career.

Pros

Coworkers are hard working, intelligent, dedicated animal advocates. I truly believed everyone was trying their best for to save the animals from horrific abuse. It was nice to be among people who understood what animals are put through and who were giving their all to help them.

Cons

Challenging work environment with no concern for work/life balance. Low pay for emotionally difficult work. It felt very hierarchical. A lot of questionable practices, such as requiring employees to watch graphic abuse imagery as part of onboarding and begging employees for monthly donations to deduct from their salaries. Some campaign strategies felt unrealistic or lacking in evidence, so it could feel like we were wasting time and resources on projects that were not likely to have much pay off for the animals.
