Pros

It's a good place to get hours if you're provisionally licensed. You can create your own group therapy curriculum/focus as long as it's applicable to the patients.

Cons

Minimal supervision is provided as a PRN with little support or guidance. There is no clinical supervisor available on site on weekends or after hours. Every department is understaffed. Burnout is high. Treatment of patients is not always compassionate or kind. No EHR system for notes. Half my day is typing and charting notes because they still operate using a paper filing system. You often have to interrupt patients meeting with the psychologist to chart your notes because the psychologist will have all the unit files in their office for multiple hours. It's a grind. Some days patients are great to work with. Other times it's difficult. I question the ethical work of others at times but don't have a say or voice in what happens. Training is non existent with 1-2 days of shadowing a supervisor and then never seeing them again.

Pros

In the short amount of time that I have been at OV, I have never felt more welcomed. I do not dread coming to work as my team is very supportive. There is room for growth and plenty of learning opportunities.

Cons

Can be overwhelming at times, but never too much.

Pros

It's a job with benefits.

Cons

Chronic understaffing, administrative disconnect, siloing of employees, and job demands often cause moral injury.
