Pros

Great team culture, culture, and growth trajectory prior to the Auth0 acquisition in 2021. I worked at Okta from 2018 - 2021. As with any company, there were stressful times and a few unpleasant coworkers. But for the most part, it was amazing. The benefit was competitive, the culture was good, and there seemed to be a lot of potentials for Okta to become one of the most successful SaaS / Cloud businesses in the B2B space.

Cons

The Auth0 acquisition was when everything really started to go downhill. The stock value that existing employees spent so many years building went down the drain, Auth0 employees &og Okta employees were not getting along, compromising the overall company culture. And the stress of appeasing stakeholders after so much money was spent on the acquisition really cause a lot stress on everyone. Many of the amazing leaders built the company to what it was quickly left after. Oh, one more con: minority groups (POCs, queer folks, women, etc) in leadership are the exception, not the norm. I have seen so many talented coworkers be passed up for promotion only for much less qualified cis white men take the spot.

Pros

Smart, talented, and supportive colleagues. Interesting products and the opportunity to work on technology that impacts many customers. Good work-life balance in most teams. Collaborative culture with opportunities to learn from experienced peers. Strong brand recognition and valuable experience for your resume

Cons

Cons Recognition is lacking, especially for individual contributors. Strong performance and consistent delivery do not necessarily translate into career advancement, promotions, or meaningful salary increases. Growth opportunities appear limited for ICs, while management roles seem to receive a greater share of advancement and compensation opportunities. After several years, many individual contributors may find themselves reaching a career plateau with few clear paths for progression. If career growth, promotion opportunities, and compensation advancement are important priorities, it may be worth evaluating other opportunities once you’ve gained experience here
