Pros
State benefits, work-life balance (depends on the department). Ohio has one of the best pension programs in the country and the health insurance is pretty good. Work-life balance is good, depending on the department.
Cons
Rural location, campus politics, pay. You either love the location and culture, or hate it. I suggest you take a hard look at what's around and be honest with yourself about it. OU and Athens is not for everyone. The student culture is questionable at times, and the non-OU locals aren't too keen on OU folks. It can be lonely at times. Also, a car is mandatory. Everything is political. The most simple tasks become bogged down by backstories and politics. As I mentioned above, some departments take work-life balance seriously. Others do not and expect you to be tied to your phone or email at all times. It's understandable for those mid to upper level administrators who get paid to be available, but for the average administrator, it's unfair and unrealistic. OU will keep employees that aren't up to standards, but move them around laterally. So it's musical chairs with lackluster employees.
