Pros
So many incredible volunteers who are excited to help and passionate, I have met so many incredible people who are extremely driven and passionate about bettering Ohio through this job.
Pay and benefits are very good.
Cons
Senior staff and the Chair have a very toxic mentality. Be prepared to do many things outside of your job description and work extra hours with no compensation or even acknowledgement. Instead, if you don't do tons of overtime, you will be viewed as not dedicated. There is no work life balance. There were times I only had 4 hours at home between work days. There is no diversity- almost everyone in high level positions are white. There are only two employees of color and there were more in the past, but they were bullied and either quit or were fired. Plans change by the second. You will start a project that is told to you that it needs to be done ASAP, but then will sit for a week because they forgot. The Chair even addressed that there was an image issue with all of the POC employees being fired or quitting.
There is not really much opportunity to advance, they prefer to outside hire. It is not a stable workplace, as salary is based on donations and staff is wiped out after every election, usually you are an executive level.
