Cons
The management at NLS appears to be struggling with sustainable growth and a clear strategic direction. They’ve boxed themselves into a tiny corner by hyper-focusing on one product (Duck Creek) and have no visible plan for growth beyond it. They bet everything on two or three major clients, lost them, and now the company is floundering. Instead of adapting or expanding into similar technologies, they’ve decided layoffs are easier. Just keep cutting people and hoping someone, somewhere, still wants a Duck Creek implementation! They completely ignore that they have talented employees capable of far more than Duck work. At this rate, it’s hard to imagine NLS staying afloat for much longer. They used to give raises and promotions that made sense. Then they started making excuses about why they couldn’t even do a small cost-of-living raise. Pay is below average for just about every role except the executives and The Chosen Few good ole boys. When they heard people complain about this, the response was a document outlining the company’s benefits package so they could say "oh we're paying you less base salary than what you deserve, but we pay x amount of your health insurance so it's like you're basically making 7 quadrillion dollars" I watched morale within the company decline every year I was there. I saw employees who expressed dissatisfaction often reprimanded, directly and indirectly. The company seemingly wants that "we're a family" vibe and claims they value feedback but employees are ignored if the higher ups really don't like what they're being told. Which is most of the time. They try to lie to employees to boost morale but I really don't think anyone falls for it, they just don't say it out loud anymore because they know it'll get them in trouble. They want the optics of having awards like "Best Places to Work" but don't want to put in the effort or reflect on the actual reasons they didn't even make the cut this year. TLDR; company probably won't be around for much longer at the rate they're going, and they don't value their employees whatsoever.
