Pros
The entire business is small enough that you will be able to understand just about every facet of it's diverse operations within six months. From a systems administration perspective if you have little/no previous experience with unix environments, here is a perfect place to cut your teeth. Problems spring up constantly, and just about every set-up needs some love or could be improved upon dramatically. You will get a very good primary education about how a third-party data center operates, gaining exposure to server hardware, network cabling, cooling and ventilation systems and security. You will get an excellent first exposure to using freeBSD as a webhost and firewall, and pfSense as an all around network appliance. You will also get a very good general read-only exposure to network administration. If you want to test out your base diagnostic troubleshooting skills related to hardware fauls, OS and application difficulties, and network issues - you'll get a chance to do so, and fairly in-depth on some occasions.
Cons
Very limited chance for upward mobility within the company. Large (~800 messages) daily email volume. Expectation of quick resolutions and immediate responses. You will answer the phones for the general help line. You will answer the door when it rings. Pay is not competitive with other comparable service providers. Not an atmosphere or culture for mentoring or tutoring of the junior staff. Some equipment and set-ups run on cheap hardware and old software (freeBSD 4 - really!). The company is not growth oriented or expanding. Your range of tasks will still include menial ones even when you have eclipsed them in skill level. (Manual server reboots one moment, troubleshooting VPN tunnel connectivity the next, then go throw out some boxes, then diagnose PHP errors related to missing module dependencies on a webhost). You will not get a personal laptop or cellphone or any desktop equipment manufactured within the last five years.
