Pros

- Amazing sense of community among staff, interns, and volunteers (a lot of workers also have group activities, like a baseball team, a touch rugby team, karaoke...) - Flexible time schedules - Great little cafe in the aquarium for breakfast/lunch, and plenty of places nearby - Get to wander the aquarium on your time off - It's fun to talk to visitors and see their wonder at the exhibits - Working with the animals and exhibits is incredibly interesting, and you get to learn many new skills - Interns get to do much of what the actual aquarists do, and also help out on collection trips to local beaches, marshes, and dive sites

Cons

- No alumni network - From what I gathered, a lot of the positions are pretty low-paying - Paid positions like aquarists and management have very low turnover rates, which makes it tough to get a job at the aquarium

Pros

Fantastic learning opportunities, good professional development, helpful and encouraging supervisors

Cons

Opportunities to continue past end of internship are limited but that's the vibe of internships I guess

Pros

It is worthy work obviously, just run by poor communicators.

Cons

I was approved for the volunteer program, but was going to be out of the country at the time of acceptance. I told them this, multiple times, but they exclusively tried to contact me for orientation during this time and their messages and emails all contained phrasing suggesting I was the issue with communicating. When I was back in the country, I returned their calls, left messages and follow up emails and was ghosted. For the next few weeks I would receive emails telling me to contact them and when I did, there was no response. They finally threatened they would have to close my application if they did not hear from me. I do not care what you are doing, people that bad at communicating and frankly that disrespect to people offering to work for you for free is a sign of poor leadership. I closed my application because if this how difficult they are at the start, it was only going to get worse.
