Pros

Great clients. Good reputation in industry. Central downtown Toronto location

Cons

Despite what they tout about diversity, unless you're a white male you will likely never get hired and if you do you will never move up. They have a very strict white males first policy, written or not. Visible minorities are generally filtered out in the application stage, by their names. However, if they don't know you're a minority you can make it to interview stage but will not likely make it passed the first or second interview. Those minorities who have been hired have generally been leaders in government or worked for leaders in government and bring something extra that trumps their skin colour. Just look at the team makeup on their website if you need further proof. Once in a while a junior visible minority gets in but they will leave as they will never get promoted and will instead languish in the junior ranks for a lifetime or until they are pushed out.

Pros

Opportunities to work with the largest clients in Nova Scotia, Atlantic Canada, and sometimes the rest of Canada. Opportunities to learn from elite talent. Opportunities to use innovative software tools. Opportunities to work on files outside your specialty. Opportunities to work with sister firms on files in the United States and Europe. Ability to decline work based on conscience. Ability to join an exceptional in-person office culture versus other NATIONAL branches and other public relations firms. Access to senior management in a flat bullpen. Senior management support against rude or offensive clients. Implicit support to pursue exit opportunities.

Cons

Typical agency downward salary pressure. Parent company downward salary pressure. Occasional weekend work culture. Implicit weekday hustle culture. Implicit on-call obligations during holidays. Unclear promotional timelines. Inconsistent performance metrics.
