Pros

You get paid on time and arranging holiday time is easy. Apart from the reward you may feel from actively helping and providing a service for the British troops abroad, that's about it.

Cons

Management is useless. The general way of promotion does not reflect a persons hard work or relationship with the customers but, to word it politely, by how much you are willing to suck up to the management. I watched many hardworking and very competent staff overlooked for promotion for sometimes new inexperienced and unprofessional people who just happened to be related or married to another manager. The hard workers they reward by giving the extra work caused by this new managements inability to do their job.

Pros

I was based in Germany, so had free accommodation in old army blocks and my wage was tax free.

Cons

Nobody really knew who managed us, we only occasionally saw a senior manager. Wages were terribly low for the work I did and there was no social aspect at all, you worked and went home. When I called in sick once in the 5 years I worked there, my manager sent someone to my block to see if I was actually sick or faking it. I knew my job inside out and better than anyone, I had gold stars, but when my assistant manager job came open, I was snubbed and someone externally was put in with place to do the role, as they knew the manager and were friends.
