Pros

Every job afterward will feel humane in comparison

Cons

In my first week at the company, the CBO took me to dinner and spent the whole night smearing a direct report's reputation with salacious gossip--and this person was one of her favorites. In our department meetings, I witnessed regular public humiliation of team members (and experienced it myself). I heard the CBO chastise employees for being out sick, attending a funeral & going to the doctor after being injured in a car accident. In lieu of being a mentor and leading by example, the CBO fostered a culture of fear. On several occasions she made body-shaming comments about coworkers. I heard her make vile comments about pregnant & new mothers' bodies. One two occasions she made racist comments. When two female employees met her wrath for bringing a child to work on Bring Your Kids to Work Day--a firable offense, apparently--I realized that parents of young children are disadvantaged at Munchkin and the CEO is fully complicit. I later learned of multiple whistle-blowing efforts made in response to the CBO's behavior going back years. Like many who accept a position at Munchkin, I was fooled by the innocent appearance of a company that manufactures baby products. Stay away at all costs.

Pros

The working team are great to work with, collaborative, creative and hardworking. They support each other and help make Munchkin bearable to work for.

Cons

Munchkin has got to be one of the worst place to work for. Ironically they are certified as "Great Place to Work" for many years. Words that best describe that place include dictatorship, fear-mongering and high ego. From an outsider perspective, Munchkin looks great on resume, with all the awards they've won throughout the years but it was a nightmare to be on the inside. Decision made are not necessarily best for the business, but best for the ego of Brand Design department lead. Fear lingers in the office, especially for teams that have to work with, or are part of Brand Design Department. With the CBO's needs to have control over everything, it means most team work in fear. The C Level does whatever Brand Design wants (she is untouchable) and Human Resource can't stand up for employees and can't keep things confidential. Munchkin expects loyalty out of employee, but anyone can get fired at any moment. Employees stay silent because speaking up or doing the right thing for the business often makes them a target. Current staff fear termination, while former employees fear legal threats. High turnover and workforce reductions have significantly increased the workload for remaining staff. Coupled with a toxic work environment, this has created an unsustainable situation that continues to drive employees away. For many of us who have left the company, we are glad that Munchkin is behind us.
