Horrible Job Culture - Transportation Coordinator Montgomery County Intermediate Unit Employee Review

Pros

The only good thing about working here is the decent pay and benefits, as well as working with or helping children.

Cons

The job culture is horrible, where upper management is consistently being passive-aggressive, and other employees love to let you know how long they've worked for the company (20-30+ years), which automatically equates to them using outdated practices and refusing new methods on the basis that they "know how" better than anyone else. It gets to a point where people become toxic and unprofessional. Imagine being told by your direct supervisor to work on a task and then being told by them that it's not your job. Imagine being sent your job description by them because they simply don't know how to perform the job you were expected to perform because the last person in the role was there for 30 years. Imagine your supervisor is also supposed to train you on how to perform your job, although they have no idea how to do your job because they never thought to engage with the previous person in this role and now they take their frustrations out on you by making it seem like you're incompetent because they have no idea how to manage and train you, nor do they know how to create clear expectations for the role. That's what it's like working at MCIU. Micromanaging at its finest. Let's also not forget that there are no growth opportunities because everyone has been there for so long and loves to tell you as much.

Pros

There don't seem to be many now

Cons

Almost everything, this organization is bait and hook. The classes are too big, you don't get any support or money/time for professional development (although the people at the top can take their professional development on IU paid trips to Africa and Europe). Multiple staff have gone on disability this year due to being hurt by the students (concussions, broken bones) and yet we lost most of our behavior staff and they were not replaced.
