HR and Sr. Mgmt are a joke/Employee morale is in the toilet - Manager Moffitt Cancer Center Employee Review

Pros

It used to be a great place to work, with every employee happy to be there and contributing to the prevention and cure of cancer. That was in mid 2000.

Cons

"More with less" is the mantra. If you press your boss for that promotion they promised after years of "exceeds expectations" and making them look good (by taking all credit for your work), then you suddenly get re-assigned, re-evaluated (as a poor performer), and shown the door. Going to HR is a joke, because all they do is inform your manager you have a problem with them. Going to Sr. Mgmt is a joke, because they are all poorly trained in how to effectively manage people. This happens in every department in all of Moffitt. Anything that looks like a nail is quickly hammered down. I hope Alan List is able to change this systemic mentality. For an institution dedicated to curing cancer... they certainly allow malignant people to persist as managers. If you need a job, fine. If you want a career, look elsewhere.

Pros

Annual raises and small bonus. Decent program to continue education.

Cons

PTO is used for everything including holidays and hurricane closures. Their program for what is an excused and unexcused absence is weird and difficult to follow. The department I worked in is new. Even still after 2 years of existence they should have a better grasp of how to run the dept and treat people. I have been in the field for over 15 years and have never dealt with the level of lies, gaslighting, and disrespect from a program director in my life. She will literally interrupt you answering a question to tell you you're wrong because she doesn't like your answer. Even people that do not work for her but have to liason with her have had to shout over her to stop talking and let them finish. They will decide 2 months after something happened to suddenly write up a person and make up a reason why it is a problem that now needs discipline. They also play favorites. If you are on the vet team you can do no wrongevrn when you are clearly the problem. Husbandry is always the scapegoat.
