Pros

The training to get you knowledgeable about roofing systems is thorough and ongoing. It might be at the surface level, but it is enough to understand the differences between roofing systems. You would be advised to go online to get a deeper understanding of roofing, in general. The MetalMan roof is one of the best roofing systems available. You can be confident that you can deliver on your promise of a lifetime roof. The warranties are some of the best in the industry. The commission is mostly straightforward. That is, you get the same percentage no matter the discount offered on the roof. There is medical insurance available, as well.

Cons

The marketing is ineffective. That is, it doesn't reflect the value of the roof. It is misleading regarding the price to purchase the MetalMan roof. The result is homeowners have no idea from the marketing how much it will approximately cost. This leads to homeowners not understanding that a permanent metal roof made of aluminum alloy is around $2000 per square or 3 to 4 times more than a traditional asphalt shingle roof. So when the salesperson presents a price most homeowners are unable to afford they are left dumbfounded. The worst part is that the salespeople have to pay their own gas to drive several hours to discover the homeowners are unable to afford the metal roof. There is no compensation or reimbursement for running a successful presentation to an unqualified lead. The only way to be compensated was to sell the lead on the day of the appointment. This often leads to a high-pressure close where the price is discounted by $10,000s. In the end, I left because it was the lack of leads in general, compounded with the fact they were unqualified, that required $1000s of my own money only to find out they were not prepared to purchase a lifetime roof over and over again.

Pros

MetalMan offered a great product and pays its sales reps very well. For sales veterans, you can make a lot of money without too much work. I also think it is a great opportunity for young or new sales professionals as it gives you some great experience. You quickly learn to handle rejection and it is an amazing feeling when you close a deal. This would be a great job for someone looking for sales experience, or a summer job for ambitious college kids as you can make upwards of $30k a month. There is a lot of opportunity to move up and advance within the company. They are always (or were when I was there) looking for managers not only within MetalMan but for their sister company LeafGuard as well. These managers take on a lot of responsibility but I would imagine it is fantastic work experience for your career.

Cons

The schedule was brutal. Some days you would have no leads to run, and other days you would find out at 9 pm the night before that you had a 3-hour drive the next morning to your next lead. Luckily, my manager was great and did his best to inform you as soon as he knew you were going on a far lead. You can make a lot of money, but I found it difficult/near impossible to maintain any sort of regular daily schedule. I don't know how you would be able to do it with a family, but some of my coworkers did manage. I didn't care for the business model that they have where you start out at an extremely high price and then take more and more money off the price of the job until the customer agreed. I often felt that most customers could see through this. This may be different now, but when I was working at MetalMan they seemed to be marketing to the wrong people. Their product is extremely high-end, and they were often getting leads from lower-income people who flat out couldn't afford it. I believe they were switching their marketing at the time that I left, so it may not be that way today. I didn't like that you were forced to call the manager in the middle of the meeting with the client in order to close the deal. I would have preferred that we were provided with the proper training and parameters to have made these decisions on our own without having to call the manager, but I understand that is not realistic with a larger-sized company like MetalMan. Nevertheless, I thought more jobs would be sold if the rollout price was closer to the actual price they'd sell it for, not the ridiculous price they started out with. Again, I believe most customers can see through this. Lastly, I felt as if the company overall was too bound by the system that they implemented. Jobs HAD to be sold the same day or else there was no other way to process the sale in the system. Additionally, each sales rep is expected to use and stick to the same script and 30-slide presentation. I understand that having everyone on the same page is efficient for training purposes, but the presentation could have been made much more effective. However, I'm sure they have adjusted that in the time that has passed since I have left.

Pros

Nothing good pretty much a waste of time. Got a tiny paycheck while their not their anymore thank God.

Cons

These guys didn't know what they were doing. Going out to an 11' roof with a 12' ladder. Installing panels grossly out of layout because they couldn't figure it out. Non-functional venting systems installed. Going down the ladder for every cut because they are dumb.
