Pros
It's a friendly work environment. I was given choices of which department/job I was interested in during the interview process. I was hired as a cashier and asked to be a Service Coordinator. My TL and Lines Leader are awesome, supportive and friendly. No surprises as far as how the job was described and the reality of the day to day. Training and support are outstanding compared to other retailers in the area.
Cons
Meijer is unionized; low pay with raises based on hours worked and although there is a clause in the contract that the company can give pay increases based on merit, it is not utilized. Good workers leave and less-than-stellar employees remain. Chain-wide the disciplinary system is poor; praise is rare and the TMAG system is negatively based. The amount of product that is thrown away on a daily basis is staggering, wasteful and extremely shameful.
