The management is absolutely terrible. It is a small, super niche company with <10 employees that is led by the founder. While intelligent and knowledgeable about UX subject matter, the leadership is wildly inept at basic communication and proper guidance for the employees. Frustratingly, he creates positions that he himself does not know what they should entail, and then berates the individual(s) when they "don't get it right" or can't "just figure it out."
As a highly educated and capable professional, it was disparaging for this supervisor to treat me in a passive aggressive manner when I failed to read his mind or annoyed him when I asked questions to clarify vague tasks. Furthermore, I was told to do "important" things like beer runs for the office fridge, putting in endless complaints to maintenance for the office temperature, and putting together IKEA office furniture.
In one-on-one meetings, he expressed the desire to receive feedback. However, when given feedback regarding on his communication deficiencies and general lack of ability to treat his underlings with respect, it was clear he was unable to handle constructive criticism and would then treat you in an even more passive aggressive manner.
Additionally, the owner appeared to demonstrate insecurity and vanity, hiding behind his designer brand clothing and his mid-day gym sessions with a personal trainer rather than be available for his staff, invite questions, and foster a positive work environment for all employees, rather than just his favorites.
In my experience, this was by far the worst manager I have ever had. In working here, one feels not valued and is riddled with a sense of walking on eggshells around a man-child who rides extensive power trips around people who could, in general, not be less impressed by him and his facade of status.
