Pros

There are 2 locations. The first location has a beautiful view of the East River. You can see helicopters taking off and landing. There are at least 3 food trucks downstairs, so you don't have to worry if you forget to bring lunch. The second location is old and run-down. The only pro I can think of is the subway station next to it.

Cons

There is a list of cons for this company. I suggest anyone who is considering this company to read this. First, most employees are hired through an agency working in a temporary status. This company does not do direct hire. It takes longer than 6 months to convert yourself into a permanent worker. If you have any problems, you're supposed to discuss them with your agency but not the company. You would be better off not missing a single day within this period of time. This is what I describe as inflexible. Next comes the training. Yes, this company offers paid training. However, 90% of what this company and your agency say to you about the training time is inaccurate. Typically, if you start your training on a Monday, you will complete it by the following Monday. So you can count your fingers. Only 6 days. On the 7th day, you have to take an exam. On day 8, the company will assign you to different teams. You may be assigned to the other location (that old and run-down building). Starting from day 9, your supervisor will pair you up with another person. This is the shadowing program. During the shadowing, you have to follow that person's schedule. You don't get to know everything I've mentioned above, because they are unorganized. So don't trust everything they give you on the training schedule. Once you start working by yourself, you may find lots of challenges. If you know another language, you can find scripts to be translated awkwardly, Also, leads and supervisors don't know how to answer your questions and keep you holding customers on the line. Leads pretending to be supervisors to answer phone calls as some supervisors are just chatting, drinking coffee, and smoking. If you have a college degree, you deserve a better job than this one. Many people are only there for the money. The longer you stay the harder for you to find another job (if you're looking for a career change). To be honest, there is hardly any growth in a call center. Other than that, many companies look down on call centers. Unless this is the industry you like, you must think twice.

Had a few really exceptional coworkers

Cons

One reason I was hired was to bring in new ideas and work approaches; however, when I tried implementing anything new, some of the “old school higher-ups” would balk and were never open to anything new or better. My management just looked the other way and didn’t support me. As for training, I wasn’t offered much in the way of onboarding other than being told to read a lengthy “standard operating procedures” document. No real opportunities were offered to shadow anyone so I could learn in real-time. A typical work week was 60+ hours and often stretched to 70+. It was exhausting and demoralizing. The job was not sustainable and I’ve never been more relieved to be done with a place. I cannot recommend Maximus as a place to grow your skills or to give your time. Turnover seems to be relatively high at Maximus and there are far better places to work.
