Pros

Working 8 hours is pretty standard and since you're not provided a laptop, you're not expected to take your work home and work over time. Gym, day care and pool for employees. Decent 3 week vacation after the first year passes.

Cons

Where do I even begin...here's a list (there could be more) - Terrible base salary with no annual raise or performance based raise. - They will make it sound like you're going to earn a lot from profit sharing and try to sell you the idea when you're given an offer. In reality however, the profits are not guaranteed every quarter - it's only guaranteed when the companies post the profits (which could take a while since it's privately owned). It could take over 10-12 months before you get your first profit share after you join - No growth. Most people there have been in the same positions for years (some over a decade). - No WiFi. Very strict internet usage policy for desktop worksations (no social media, email, YouTube etc). - No flex hours. Your work is tracked on 15 minute intervals. You can't use the recreational facilities during work hours. If you decide to go play pool outside your lunch window, you have to badge out and technically take off time to go have some fun. You're expected to make up for that time during the day. - Colleagues are unsupportive especially if they are not in your department. - NO vacation in the first year. - Since laptops are rarely provided, option to work from home is limited. - No team-building activities and extremely rare team lunches.

Pros

I got to put my skills to the test in developing automating scripts in Bash for the Linux operating system, this was to automate and make my life easier in reproducing customer systems so that we could eliminate any issues from hardware related differences. I also learned a lot about image processing, cameras and smart cameras (that is ones with a built in operating systems closer to that of a PC). I was made to understand the in-house Matrox Imaging Library, a software-development library for interfacing with Matrox's own hardware and any type of supported camera. Most of my time was spent in helping customers develop solutions for their issues with the Matrox Imaging Library, this often consisted of either developing examples that introduced the capabilities of MIL to customers, or it would consist of analyzing customers code and finding where they went wrong which lead to their issues.

Cons

When I took this stage, I wanted a stage that was more heavily focused on software development. That being said I still earned ample amount of experience in programming and spent most of my free-time when I wasn't busy and assigned a task furthering my experience in programming.
