A reasonable service and a profit-juicing company - Math Tutor Mathnasium Employee Review

Pros

In all fairness it's a good model, it offers a real service, etc. And the people at this branch are pretty nice.

Cons

A bit overly "you must be super professional to maintain appearance for parents" type of stuff. Are a little uptight about maintaining homogeneity across chains. They pay $12 to start no matter how much experience in the field you have. If you do a training (that is very long, you're technically supposed to do it but they don't tell you to, it has parts that require guidance but they don't give that guidance, etc.) you can get promoted to $14/hr. Even other employees or administrators who've been there a long time told me on like the first day that the company's all about profit lol. So eh. Scheduling is a pain and they'll tell you you can work but you might not actually be able to go in if they don't have enough students that day, so it's all kinda hit or miss.

Pros

Flexible hours that I could choose, nice working space. My boss was nice and very reasonable. Pay was decent after I completed some certifications. When the teaching was effective it was pretty rewarding and it can be fun to talk to the kids.

Cons

It was honestly a very tiring job. The kids can get really rowdy and difficult to manage, especially if you have to teach three at the same time. Management required us to use tablets and a finicky platform for worksheets that was not helpful and forced me to further split my attention.
