Pros

Good for beginners who need to practice hands on skills after school. Somewhat flexible in time off Always has clean rooms and sheets Location was fairly large so it was easy to work in.

Cons

HORRIBLE receptionists who are very young and have no clue about how much work goes into giving massages., If you tell them you give "deep tissue" they will schedule 5-8 back to back deep tissue massages. They even take away breaks if it will accommodate a client, with little concern that you actually need to EAT during your shift. I got sick of being forced into giving every client a sales pitch and refused to do it in the room. I was hired to give massages and had repeat clients to prove that I did the job i was hired for. WAY too many meetings. Management had little clue about how much work goes into massages, and only cared about sales figures. Staff overall was very snarky (from reception to other therapists) and it was difficult to listen to all of the complaining and negative comments about other people. Hourly wage is terrible and maxes out around $18.00/hour for a massage. Tips help a bit, but its not enough to support a single person.

Pros

I can not think of any pros and that will never change. Just find a better place to work and don’t submit to a corporate contract that has the potential to last 10 years in some circumstances.

Cons

As a therapist, I experienced very unethical work situations including front desk and management lying to clients about me being injured due to mistakes they made in scheduling. At one point the location I worked at had a big roach infestation where I had a roach run a crossed my massage table before brining a client back. As I said before, not this place isn’t clean. It was so bad I witnessed a former employee walk out over it. Massage envy has a 6 page, very unethical non compete that you have to sign before working. Parts of it says I can not work with any former co workers for 10 years after leaving. It states after leaving your unable to work in your home county. I witnessed multiple therapist leave go work a mile down the road from massage envy and work with 3 former coworkers all in one spa. The treatment I faced when I left was the most unfair, unethical, unprofessional experience I will ever have. And now, a month after I’ve left, the owner is asking I sign more paperwork limiting me even more…. Not to mention the drama between co workers being ridiculous and management allows therapist to go out the back door and smoke pot and then it smell smells in the clinic. Incident reports were made, but nothing was ever done to that therapist. Never, never work at any massage franchise especially this place.

As a whole, we believe franchisees aim to deliver a positive experience to their employees and we recognize that you didn't feel you received that. Locations are independently owned and operated, so the employment experience that each provides is unique. If you'd like to share any additional details with us via email to meemployeebrand@MassageEnvy.com, we'll pass them along to the franchisee.
