Pros

Some days you get go home early like the seniors

I was employed at Marsworth for 5 years. There is simply no progression in the company. All of my annual reviews consisted of my CEO informing me that I was working towards 2nd line position. My last annual review, I was told a ‘2nd line’ position does not exist within the company and never has. I was completely misled and manipulated into staying. The CEO refused to promote me in order to keep from advancing in my career and thus limited my technical and professional development. The CEO is your HR - If you complain about any of the seniors, you are instantly at fault and blamed for. All seniors (His friends) are protected. Work safety and well-being - When I highlighted issues at work and work safety with the CEO. I was told to leave the company if I was unhappy. I fractured my shoulder, I was told that I was faking it and was forced to go into work and neglected till I was able to provide proof a couple of days later. Lack of care and support - On client sites you are often left alone without support or cover whilst senior staff go on café meetings to avoid work or coffee breaks. No regular performance reviews – You are often left pulling other people’s weight whilst your colleagues sit all day and do nothing. When I complained about this to one of my directors, I was told I was jealous of a colleague. Unprofessional – Directors often comment inappropriate remarks about clients and colleagues and are very negative and insensitive towards junior colleagues. I requested a day off for a family funeral and was told I have no remaining annual leave days and therefore was not permitted to go.

Paid for a course - (MTA) A few good clients

I was constructively dismissed for various reasons such as travel time to work( was on time) and for because of evidence-less accusations that my army reserve commitments apparently were interfering with work (illegal under Reserve Forces (Safeguard of Employment) Act 1985 (SOE 85) and others....) Besides that... Bad rep in industry Senior level are very well paid, whilst junior roles get taken advantage of/underpaid (£7k or 8k behind london average) Decisions are made without consideration for the workload that will be rolled on to you Never felt like your superiors have your back with clients and just try to please them with whatever they ask for Overcharging of clients No regular performance reviews CEO is your HR department... Bad practice on many IT systems (apart from a few distinct sites)

It allowed me to get my foot in the door in IT.

No progression – I was frequently advised and pushed to complete a Microsoft certification which I achieved. However, doing so provided no benefit to me from a promotion standpoint. Furthermore, my newly acquired knowledge was not put to use as I continued to perform the same repetitive tasks with no variation for the entirety of my employment at Marsworth. The certifications were NOT to allow me to gain knowledge and progress in my career, but more to allow the company to gain the Microsoft gold-certified partner status. A promotion to a senior position was constantly teased during my annual reviews, however, there was no intention of progressing me or any of my other junior colleagues. Negative Judgement – Genuinely sick colleagues were scorned at for taking days off and senior management would regularly make negative comments towards those that did. My dog required his annual jabs as well as a routine checkup, this process usually takes no more than an hour. I was denied the morning off and was forced to use up my holiday allowance for an hour appointment. I was told that the health of my dog was non of the companies concern. Seniors regularly took days off for a wide variety of issues ranging from MOT checks, sick family members etc without having to receive the treatment which I did. Holidays – Senior management tended to always have the first share of holidays throughout the year. the new year even starting senior management would organize their holidays amongst themselves and leave the remaining days to the junior staff. Juniors were not allowed to take holidays off during the same period as we were told this would affect the companies balance. However, senior management would regularly overlap their holidays, which in some instances happened during major projects. Overworked with no support – One of the sites that Marsworth manages has a large staff count that we support. Support would be both remote and on-site. Almost every day we received complaints of issues not being resolved and some tickets being completely ignored. This was due to an obvious under-staffing issue, we were informed to prioritize tickets and deal with urgent requests. Requests that were not urgent rarely got looked at. Many of the tickets were closed with no resolution to keep the overall ticket count down. Your HR is your boss – The matters above can usually be directed to your HR team, unfortunately, with Marsworth the owner of the company is ironically also your HR team.
