Pros

Now I know to never work in retail for the rest of my life.

Cons

In the year that I worked there I was only trained to be a cashier, which limited me in the hours that were available even though I asked to be trained in other areas. I went home in tears on multiple occasions due to extremely rude costumers and lectures I would receive from management: example, not putting my receipts in order at the end of the night. Could count a couple of times where customers were so angry with me, was scared to walk back to my car at the end of my shift. Lack of consistency in training, I would get told how to do something a million different ways. Managers are penny pinchers, wouldn't give discounts when clearly deserved to a customer, would end up making me look bad. Not to mention they made me sell credit cards. I was told I had to discuss credit cards with customers until they told me no three times, most of my customers would leave so unhappy that they weren't having a genuine conversation with me. Felt like I was harassing people. I'd get lectured about selling credit cards daily, or if I needed to go to the bathroom.

Pros

The work is the same every day (at least for janitors), and you don't have many surprises. In my experience, there is a lot of leeway for who does what as long as it gets done. I don't personally mind helping out in all departments after I am done cleaning. Current store manager (not asms) is very nice and understanding.

Cons

The management (Assistant managers in my experience) is at each other's throats to be the best out there and suck up to the district manager. The pressure to coerce customers into buying into the TJX card is a bit much. It all trickles down to the front end, which then causes everyone to be unhappy. Compensation is low and raises are based on company loyalty first, then your efficiency.
