Pros

None (well I met a few nice people and I've learned to avoid companies like this in the future)

Cons

Where do I even begin?! I would give this company negative stars if I could! First of all I was expecting a sort of admin based job with contacting customers every now and then when it turned out to be a full on call centre job. They start you off with terrible training programs with a super cringy animated video about how wonderful the company is and all that. Not to mention they have a coat of arms! (Does McDonald's have a coat of arms?!) I would also mention that before I joined I was told I wouldn't be near phones. Guess what? Within 3 days I on them. And thees people expect you to be experts on everything: insurance, using computers, using programs you've never used in your life, talking to customers, knowing GDPR laws and all that, all in 3 weeks! And all of this just for the minimum wage! Doesn't that sound wonderful?! And after your three weeks you are basically thrown onto the phones with about two people watching over you, having to wait forever to get to them whenever I put a customer on hold (which was an awful lot as there are so many things you're not taught in training). With a lot of the calls most of the customers are (very understandably) upset as they have been waiting MONTHS for claims which can be worth thousands of pounds. There were times when I never knew what to do and often ended up with the customers making formal complaints. And the problem is really you're just getting moaned for SOMEONE ELSE'S incompetence! There are other insurance companies that get this sorted out in days! Again, all this for minimum wage?! I would also mention that one of the training methods is to listen to one of your own calls (as someone who hates the sound of my own voice, this was pretty much the last straw for me. Again, minimum wage!). But really, really gets me about this company (and what got me to write this review in the first place) is their sick pay policy. Well, really, there isn't one. You're just paid SSP and that's it. Even though they were advertising sick pay as a thing in the job interview and job description. I've lost thousands of ££££ thanks to this and my last payslip was supposed to include holiday pay but they docked it for "arrears" and "unpaid sick leave"! I mean, seriously?! How is this even legal?! One last thing, they recently bought out another insurance company for £400,000,000, which I find insidious since they can't even pay their own employees properly. Just remember, if you work for them you'll only have yourself to blame upon reading my (and other people's) review. They are an utterly despicable company that put fattening their own wallets first and putting you and their customers dead last.

Thank you for your review. We are sad to read your comments but appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback with us. We do not know the exact area of the business you worked in, however from your comments we believe you may have been working in our Customer Claims department. If this is the case, we are surprised that your expectations were not set correctly at interview stage as the role is phone based. Our interviewers make it very clear that the role is a customer facing one with lots of contact with customers and we are sorry if this wasn’t the case in your experience. We appreciate that there has been challenges in this area of the business over the past year, however we’re extremely proud that service levels have improved and that they are starting the new year in a positive place, which will improve the service we provide to our customers and our colleague experience. When new colleagues join the business, we have a standard induction process which includes sharing information about the Markerstudy Group so our colleagues feel a sense of belonging to the wider business. A set training programme then follows, which is business area specific. We have shared your feedback about your training to the relevant Senior Management Team for continuous improvement. Our salaries and benefit package are regularly benchmarked in the industry and we’re very pleased that we are competitive. Our sickness policy is fully in line with legal requirements. We are very proud of our acquisitional culture and through these acquisitions, the business is able to grow which gives our colleagues more opportunity to develop and build their skills. In addition, we have looked at our end of year pay review scheme and are delighted that this year, we’ve been able to make increased pay-rises to our colleagues to assist with the cost-of-living crisis. Any additional information provided via myfeedback@markerstudy.com is shared confidentially with the relevant management team. We take feedback very seriously with the aim of improving the working experience for our colleagues.
