Pros

The only pro to this place is the student body. Every student here is sweet and amazing and wonderful. If you like being micro-micro-micro-micro-micro managed, this is the place for you!

Cons

The head of school is coniving. The owner won't let anyone do anything outside of what she has prescribed. Literally. Don't make your own files. Don't rearrange your desk. Don't ask for accommodations to help ease physical pain. Do any of these things and you become an easy, easy target. If you are someone who has worked anyplace for an extended period of time, you have a certain way of doing things that has made you successful. Well, don't even think of trying to bring that with you. They don't care, and it will make you a target for the head of school and owner. They want brainless zombies who will simply follow along even if there is a more efficient, far easier way to achieve the same result. They give you a handbook for your job and you had better know every single detail that's in that book before you start because they don't want you to make a single error, and there is not a learning curve at all. Be prepared for the administrators and owners to go through everything on your desk. Including your email. Be prepared for files and papers and anything else you're working on to be taken and summarily trashed by the administrators and owner. Prepare not to be treated as if you have no brain. If you don't like being told, down to the minute, what you should do, run away as far and as fast as you can.

Pros

The students and teachers here are great. I love working with students one on one and in small groups, able to see them grow and change as the year goes on. The work is very rewarding. The teachers I work with are very positive and are essentially your lifeline when working at Manus. They will help you with learning the way of the school and how to best succeed.

Cons

This place does not foster positive environments between administration and employees. There is no communication other than waiting for an email at the end of your day to see what administration thought you did wrong during your time working. The emails are passive aggressive and don't offer any advice or means to change, they often word something like this: "I noticed today when I was in your classroom that you were doing xyz. I'm confused and concerned about this behavior as it was never discussed at all." There is no training to work here. The administration gives you a large book to work on that details the curriculum, but there is no assistance or mentoring or anything that resembles training in a normal sense. They do not tell you what they expect from you as an employee, it's a waiting game to see when you mess up and do something they don't approve of. This behavior can be as minimal as how you choose to read a book to your class, or how you choose to give instructions to your class.
