Pros

Some people are great and way too good to be working at MakerSights.

Cons

Don’t walk, run. MakerSights is the most poorly managed dumpster fire of a startup I have ever had the displeasure of working for. The favoritism in specific organizations is astounding and widely recognized, and nothing is done about it. If you aren’t one of the chosen favorites, good luck (you won’t succeed no matter how hard you try). Leadership has no idea what they are doing, and has made so many decisions that set the company back. The CEO only surrounds himself with people who tell him yes, despite how terrible his ideas might be. Example: only selling to two personas, even when others are interested in the product. And trust me; this company is in no position to turn down anyone’s money. The product is pretty neat, but no one NEEDS it. Any client who cancels will be just fine without them. The poor decisions of management have resulted in two layoffs within 6 months, and the company is now half the size it was less than a year ago. Really disappointed (but not surprised) to see this CEO’s actions result in so many people without jobs who put so much into this company. Three things I never saw in my time at MakerSights: employees feeling valued (I’m sure an org or two did, but certainly not all of them), employees feeling like their opinions are heard (if you have a new idea you’ll probably just get a pat on the head and told ‘oh that’s nice’), and product development (bug fixes don’t count). Do those three things and a few dozen more, and there might be hope for a brighter future. But I’m afraid it’s too late for that. Good luck.

Pros

- The company was in the maintenance mode for a few years with minimal growth, but the leadership made the tough calls to proactively bring back the team to startup rhythms. - the product / problem space is very niche so you don't feel threatened by every new release by major frontier labs.

Cons

- A lot of people joined the company during the maintenance mode so the team has mixed feelings about the recent culture shifts. If you want to work hard in an early-stage startup, those changes are not a con at all, but those who liked the stability from the previous era, the company feels meaningfully different.
