Toxic work environment - Accountant Magneco/Metrel Employee Review

Pros

Fair wages and VERY generous insurance/benefits

Cons

Zero work from home option available, we were only remote for the government mandated 2 months and then were back in the office 5 days a week in JUNE of 2020 despite accounting/corporate staff not being “necessary workers”. Upper management does what they can but the owners/executives see every complaint or disagreement as the upmost disloyalty to the company. They are extremely unapproachable and yet refuse to see that they are the problem. Be prepared to take on tasks you did not sign up for. They’d rather add on to your tasks than hire someone to fill that role.

Pros

Pretty much nothing. I guess the health insurance was decent.

Cons

The president is not friendly and is overbearing. He will stand outside your office and listen to your phone calls and act like he's doing something else, among other odd behaviors. The CFO (the president's sister) is very intimidating and not very nice. Very impatient and be prepared to feel like an idiot if you do anything wrong. Not afraid to overwork everyone yet takes every Friday off (because their family owns the company). Most people are underpaid. If someone else leaves a position, be prepared to fill it no matter if it's unrelated to what you do now because they don't really bother finding new employees to fill THAT position. Instead they make you take it over with minimal to no training and then replace whatever you were doing before with someone else! So if you're a new college grad, this is awful because you will end up getting experience in stuff that isn't useful to you whatsoever. Also if they don't like you, they will bully you until you quit even if you've worked for them for 20+ years and have a very important role. Then they will tell another person to take on that role and then they're responsible for two top accounting and financial roles. If you need to go to the doctor, find an appointment on the weekends or after work ONLY because you will not be allowed to take time off for that unless you've been working there for like 5 years. So, in short, it's awful.
