Pros
Excellent working environment, lovely likeminded people tend to work there and I always felt like I was in a close knit group (I worked in England and Wales locations) They pay living wage not minimum wage so the pay was great for a retail position. Always felt like a positive environment, training was intense but worthwhile as there are a lot of products and also lots of interesting ingredients that you need to be able to know the purposes of in order to correctly advise customers. You also get 50% off all Lush products at every store, which was wonderful if you’re a fan of the products as well as 1 free spa treatment and lots of free (damaged or unsellable) items such as a slightly dented bath bomb to take home and try yourself. I worked there for a total of 1 1/2 years and really enjoyed it.
Cons
The only cons are that even though the environment isn’t as toxic as most retail environments, you were still expected to approach customers fairly forcefully at times. Supervisors would often pick out certain people who had entered the store to browse and then they’d ask certain staff to approach them, and then re-approach them if they hadn’t bought something immediately. It could be a little bit uncomfortable at times as you can tell when a person just wants to be left alone, so having to approach them again after they’ve just told you to go away felt like pestering them. But, most of the time the customers welcomed your help and advice. Just wish it wasn’t as pushy.
