Poorly managed at the executive level Leadership is too hands-off No career support, requires nearly constant self-advocacy, to the point where getting anything out of the org to support morale, reward top performers, or just to show gratitude for little things for yourself or the team is more stressful than the entire job

Pros

Great culture, work ethic and upwards mobility for employees who are solid contributors.

Cons

Smaller company, so the benefits aren't as good as what large companies can provide, for example there is some 401k matching, but it would be nice if there was more.

Pros

Amazing benefits and office culture. 95% of the people are pure gold and work hard and really give a damn about their coworkers health and well being. Unlimited time off, sick flexible work hours, beer taps in the office....lots of opportunities to learn and to grow and work on cool tech.

Cons

The other 5% of people here who aren’t so great happen to be in management. Some micro manage and scapegoat leaving team members hanging. On my team, there was a gluttony of overtime which was abused and not respected like it should be. It felt almost paradoxical with how protective the company culture was of employee happiness otherwise. It was like a dirty little secret. “O this entire team quit because of overtime burnout.” We aren’t talking normal on call as expected in this industry, but on call + weekends and nights when not on call + data center trips in the middle of the day...the data center is far from the office so it’s a hike. After all that, immediate managers are forgiving and protective but hire ups will yell at you and still treat you with condescension like your time isn’t valuable and why aren’t you working harder. For startup salary and no 401k contribution, no thanks. I’ve never been so sad to leave a gig. The one place is so amazing and my teammates are guys I’d go to war with.
