Pros

- Pretty great for your resume. - You can move up the ranks quickly with promotions/internal hirings. - The newsroom itself is a beautiful space and comfortable to work in.

Cons

- Terrible leadership/management team. - No work/life balance. - Absolutely no onboarding. On your first day, you just have to learn through failing fast and constant criticism. - The pay is horrendous. I knew people working as cashiers at Whole Foods that made more money than the producers at WPLG do. - Everyone is out for themselves. No sense of teamwork, or camaraderie. People just do their job and rarely speak to one another. - Desperately in need of D&I initiatives. Almost no women work as executives, or in leadership roles, and the rare ones that do aim to bring down the women around them.

Pros

Cutting-Edge Stack: Opportunity to work with enterprise-grade gear (Nexus 9K, Firepower, Cisco UC) in a real-time, zero-downtime environment. Mission Critical Work: Your contributions directly impact the station's ability to stay on-air, providing a high sense of professional accomplishment. Dynamic Pace: No two days are the same; excellent for engineers who enjoy troubleshooting complex, multi-layered issues (Network, Cloud, and Broadcast).

Cons

Reactive Culture: The current "break-fix" mentality prioritizes immediate fire-fighting over proactive architecture, stalling the adoption of automation and long-term stability. Siloed Excellence: A traditional culture that fosters individual "territories" rather than a collaborative Agile environment; this can lead to technical elitism and prevents effective knowledge sharing. Feedback Void: A lack of consistent performance metrics or structured communication from management, leaving engineers without clear indicators of success or areas for improvement.
