Pros
Your experience will depend on your supervisor and support staff. There is a closer connection with students and their families than some other education jobs. Good benefits and holidays. More flexibility to work with the individual kids than Gen Ed.
Cons
This is a business and above all they want to remain employed by the districts even if it means ignoring the needs of the students. Some supervisors are clueless and vindictive. Support staff that were aggressive to the children were simply moved to New rooms instead of fired. Lots of off hours work needed to get by.
