Pros
Senior management cares about doing the right thing for its employees, its suppliers, its customers, its communities and the environment. The jobs are interesting and, for the most part, the atmosphere is professional. Good performance is recognized and you are trusted to do your job. The San Francisco plaza headquarters is a beautiful location--- it is a nice perk to walk to the Ferry Building or up the Coit Tower Steps over lunch.
Cons
After a few years of investing in its "breakthrough" strategy, the new CEO is starting a major cost cutting initiative. There have been some significant layoffs within the last few months and more are likely. The new CEO is an unknown element-- it is too early to tell if the impact will be positive or negative, but despite the layoffs, so far his statements of his objectives are consistent with CEOs of other large PUBLIC companies--- that is new for LS&Co., which was previously run like a private company. Several senior management leaders have left-- some by their choosing and some not---and the company is re-org'ing to a new "3 pillars" structure instead of the brand led structure that they had been moving towards. The company is in flux.
