Pros

The student population is wonderful and I look forward to teaching everyday. My coworkers are very supportive and my supervisor is both supportive and kind in her constructive criticism. This is a place for students to grow. I have worked in the public school system as a Special Educator for many years and I have to say this (LPS) is where I shall retire. There is room to grow both in my teaching career and within the school itself. Also, the school community consists of two schools, an upper and lower.

Cons

I don't really have any cons about the school other than the amount of work and responsibility that teachers are required to do. It may be nice if the school hired additional substitute teachers to cover lunch duty, recess, etc. Teachers are required to share in all of these additional responsibilities over and above the classroom responsibilities.

Pros

Hugely positive workplace culture - everyone genuinely cares about what they're doing. I feel very supported by supervisors and coworkers alike. Much better salary than similar AA positions in the area right now.

Cons

Very few. Days can get hectic, but that's to be expected at a school - and as stated above, everyone does their best to support each other.

Pros

Working in the Transition Dept here at LPS, you have a chance to help high school students gain experiences they may not outside of school. We work on executive functioning, independent living skills, employment training and financial literacy. Being a member of your team within the high school building, you are able to collaborate with many staff. The seniors you work with go to work and participate in experiences in the community setting with you by their side to foster said experiences. Come ready to work and you will see what a special program we are here at LPS and how we work together as a whole school team to work on the whole child and what their path to success looks like! I have been here 17 years, worked in a few different roles and I have been happy and excited to tell people where I work and what I do! Also there is an onsite daycare for staff which all of my children have attended and loved!

Cons

The pay could be more competitive
