Pros
It's a good job to get your foot in the industry, as it's very fast-paced.
The colleagues I worked with were great; we all shared the same feelings.
The exposure to so many clients provided valuable experience.
Cons
Bonuses were extremely unfair. At the location I worked at, therapists could only reach their targets if they met the injectables goal, meaning we had to cross-sell laser customers on skin treatments and injections. If we didn’t meet this target, we couldn’t achieve our overall goal. The target was 5-6 customers a month, but not everyone wants injections, especially in today’s climate. When I first started, bonuses were only given if the entire team met the laser target, not just if you achieved it individually, which was really unfair.
Management was another issue. The clinic owner was very condescending and completely unsupportive. During my interview, they essentially said that if you're ever sick, just take a Panadol and come in because this industry is too tough to call in sick. That was a huge red flag for me. The management team was highly unprofessional, and it was clear they only promoted people who sucked up to them and didn’t voice their opinions, which was horrible.
Taking annual leave was something everyone was afraid to do, and the work culture was toxic. I would never go back to working for a chain because their ethics and morals are non-existent—they only care about how much money they can make from each customer, regardless of their financial situation.
- you have 2-5 minutes to clean your room after each client and average about 25-30 clients a day. It's exhausting and they only give you two 30 minute breaks for a 8:30am and 9:30pm finish. How do you expect your employees to work optimally. Yes, the beauty award does state this but if a client cancels allow your employees to take a breather.
