Pros

This was an overnight position at the time. We would usually start around 9 or 10 pm, and finish anywhere between 4 and 6am depending on the size of the ad. The ad set team was a small team. You were pretty much on your own to do your departments. You didn't have to deal with customers, cleaning the store, etc. My supervisor was fantastic and I loved working for her. The position technically paid minimum wage ($7 and change), but Kohl's paid an additional $2 premium for overnight shifts, so the pay was almost $10/hr. I was also in line to become ad set supervisor shortly before I decided to move to another city.

Cons

Shortly before I left, new management came in and began making changes to the position. It was no longer overnight, so we started sometime in the evening and were usually expected to be finished shortly after midnight. Our overnight premium went out the window, which was one of the major perks of the position. Many of us who worked it worked it in addition to a day job, and the change in hours made this a less practical second job. During this period, we often found ourselves rushed to finish by 12:30 or 1 am, so they began hiring more people for the ad set team - more people working shorter shifts to get the job faster might have saved the company money, but it resulted in the "old guard" of the ad set team being dissatisfied. Given that the job was basically about changing sale signs, it was much easier to do without customers. Having to help customers interfered with getting the job done in the time management wanted it done, and there were even instances where tomorrow's sale signs were going up tonight while the store was still open. Communication between management and our team was also pretty poor. Managers didn't seem unified with each other in particular instances, so there was a lot of being told two different things at the same time by two different managers. I also had "login" problems with my employee number and our scanning device from the beginning. Management continued to assure me the problem would be taken care of, but every time I brought it up, they were surprised that it hadn't already been fixed, and the cycle continued. It was never fixed by the time I left voluntarily.

Cons

Little to no training been working here for almost a year now there’s still something I don’t know every day. What was most difficult for me was being at registers as I was trained in two days by shadowing someone. There are so many situations and problems that will come up every day and you will learn something new! They never taught me about Kohl’s cash, how to read receipts, reprint or edit receipts. They schedule so little so when you do learn something there’s no chance of rehearsal because you come in three weeks later working at a different department.
