Terrible and volatile work environment - Recruiter KeyStaff Employee Review

Pros

You get a lot of hands on experience because the training is poor and you're forced to learn quickly. You can also move up rapidly because turnover is so high and they constantly need to backfill for roles like a Recruiter.

Cons

Even though I'm a former employee, I was compelled to write a review after seeing the absurdly high rating KeyStaff has on Glassdoor (which is largely due to the fact that KeyStaff asks their current employees to write reviews to increase their rating). I have never experienced a worse company culture that doesn't value their employees. This is clear by the revolving door of team members who come through and are terminated for sometimes meaningless reasons--or because they realize there are much better career opportunities. The owners make careless decisions and base important things like metrics off of guesses versus fact, gossip with other employees, and don't invest into important things like training.

You haven't worked for KeyStaff in years. I don't know why you feel the need to continue to write bad reviews. It seems like that is a waste of time to me. Anyway, I hope you're able to move on and find new employment. I'm sorry that you we finally had to terminate you after many, many chances. So disappointing on so many levels.

Pros

KeyStaff is such a great company. I’ve been here for over a year and have loved it. I’m unfortunately leaving the company soon, but I’ve enjoyed my time here so much. My KeyStaff family is amazing, especially my San Antonio Fam! We’re a small team, but we always communicated well with each other, gave feedback, bounced ideas off each other, and we always made sure everyone was helped out as much as possible.

Cons

Not really much to say about Cons. The only thing I can think of is just be prepared that not every day will be the same. You’ll have super great days where you can achieve all your goals in a day, but there are some days where it’ll take longer and you just have to make sure to communicate that with your team or manager. If they don’t know something is wrong, then they aren’t able to help you out! Just make sure to ask for help if you need it and be good with following up on your candidates. There may be times that you need to stay longer to make sure you’re meeting you goals, but they make you stay longer. It’s up to you to make sure your communicating with the team and maintaining your metrics.

Pros

Helping companies in need find well qualified people and helping people find work is fun and rewarding (just not pay wise)

Cons

Their commission policies are a joke and the base pay is way way too low. In order to start earning any type of commissions, you have to build a book of business and bring in $8000/week in gross margin. This is a really high target that will take at least a year to achieve so prepare to live on sub-market base pay for 12 months minimum. If you have any sales experience, do not work here. You will be disappointed. The base pay in Austin for sales is much much higher at 99% of other companies in this area. The owners are incredibly greedy and also will not give you credit for an account you've worked unless the person calls you directly. If the prospect calls the general phone number or email the general email address, management keeps the money regardless if you've been calling/emailing, or visiting them in person. I wasn't even at a point where I was earning commissions yet and the owner refused to give me credit for an account I'd been calling and emailing. I wouldn't have even been paid for it. If they're willing to do this when you aren't in the commissions yet for a single person job opportunity, I can't imagine what they'll do to not pay you for your work when you do finally hit the minimum gross margin minimum which will take at least a year. They can't seem to hold any sales people for more than a few months and now I know why. That should've been a red flag but I ignored it. Lesson learned.

Thanks for your feedback. Our base pay and commission are actually very competitive within our industry, and we are constantly reviewing to ensure they stay that way. But, we do have an somewhat an entrepreneurial culture where everyone is kind of running their own business within the business, and we understand that's definitely not for everyone. We do wish you the best in your future career, and we are here to help in any way we can if you ever need it.
