Pros

Looked like a next unicorn outside

Cons

Political games, toxic environment due to insecure team leads. No one cares about just software engineers. Everything is decided by managers who get really jealous when decisions are made by their subordinates. No leaders but insecure managers. Inappropriate sexual jokes from some managers

Thank you for reaching out with your feedback and sharing your perspective on areas where we can improve. I am truly sad to hear that despite of a generally very good feedback on our company culture, we didn’t live up to your expectations. I can confidently say that we do work continuously to learn from our successes and failures to get better and make sure that everyone in Katana would be able to do their best work. I will take your feedback and discuss this internally to make sure that we have a solid plan and practices to avoid situations like this in the future. I want to confirm that jokes that hurt even one person in Katana, or make anyone feel uncomfortable, are completely unacceptable for us. When raised, we address them with all seriousness. We want to encourage people to bring their authentic selves to work, but also expect everyone’s uniqueness to come with kindness and good level of sensitivity. I do have to say that some aspects of your feedback take me as a surprise. I do wish we had the chance to discuss all your feedback while you were still with us, so we could have solved the challenges as they occurred and taken appropriate action immediately. Please know that you are very welcome to reach out to me any time, if you still wish to share more context and make sure that we take the most appropriate action. With kindness, Kristi Schumann Chief People & Culture Officer

Pros

Working at Katana has been an incredibly rewarding experience. I love the flexibility of being part of a fully remote team, yet we still get the chance to connect in person during our annual company trip to Estonia—which is always a highlight. The product itself reflects the same values we work by: simple, powerful, and scalable. Katana’s UI is clean and intuitive, making it easy for users to get started right away. The open API and native integrations are robust, which is a huge win for manufacturers looking to streamline operations without overcomplicating things. Everything is clearly organized, and our team thrives on the structure and efficiency that carries through from our internal workflows to the product we deliver. If you’re passionate about helping businesses move from clunky spreadsheets to modern, connected systems—and you want to grow in a remote-first, high-impact environment—Katana is the place.

Cons

That said, there are a few challenges. The product is missing some key features that would make selling easier, especially in more complex sales cycles. And while the compensation is fair, I do wish the pay were slightly more competitive, especially given the strategic nature of the role and market.

Thanks for sharing this. It’s great to hear the remote setup and Estonia trip have been highlights for you. We put a lot of care into creating that balance between flexibility and meaningful connection, so it’s nice to know it’s landing. I also really appreciate you being honest about what’s not working too. The feature gaps you called out are valid, and we know they can add friction in the sales process. These are exactly the kind of insights that help us get sharper. Grateful to have you on the team! Christina De Giovanni Head of People and Culture, North America/NZ
