Pros
Most students are excited to learn and try new things and proactively go out and seek new knowledge in their own with a you providing some exposure or direction.
Cons
Most of the colleagues in the college I worked in were married to each other. In a department of ~30 faculty there were around 6 or 8 married couples which made it a political nightmare to deal with unless you could get them on your side. However, they were relatively open to listening to MY suggestions...just not everyone's.
