Pros
You get a lot of exposure to the legislative process and you will staff legislative committees if you are an analyst. This is a great foundation for a career in government because you learn so much about the legislative process. You can also switch areas of research and fiscal analysis which is a good way to learn about new subjects.
Cons
The hours are rough. You serve at the please of the Legislature. If the Legislature is there at 3am, you will be there at 3am. I think the work life balance was the worst aspect of this job. Hard to advance beyond starting position and principal positions because there is nothing in between. Due to the budget cuts, there wasn't much of an opportunity for raises. Also, your experience will vary depending on whether you are a fiscal or research analyst. Each team gets busy at different times in the session and have very different job responsibilities.
