Pros
There are some really bright people working here with a wide variety of backgrounds. They do really solid, important work. Organization is great about getting you to add more skills and training opportunities. For a government agency, they have very forward-thinking management with accountability. If you have established yourself, there is also good job flexibility with some flex time working from home or working longer hours to get Fridays off. Good advancement opportunities.
Cons
Budget battles in the legislature always imperil the staffing situation. This also leads to low pay. Important policy papers are disregarded by lawmakers. Drab office building in a drab town.
