Pros

When I first started at JumpStart, the training was amazing and I felt supported. I felt open to asking questions and letting my trainer know when I needed more support. I appreciated being able to make up hours if my client was out sick through coverage and non-billables.

Cons

After I passed my RBT certification, I did not feel as supported especially when put on coverage. I also started to notice more cliques within the staff and felt like an outsider. The company says they follow sick policies for clients but several times I saw sick clients who physically and mentally were not able to work but didn't have high enough fevers to go home. The company also does not have dedicated time off for being sick so a lot of employees were constantly sick because they couldn't afford to take the time off. The pay is also low compared to other companies and they try to offset this by giving away gift cards which is a nice gesture but does not help pay the bills.

JumpStart Autism Collective Response

We appreciate the time you took to provide feedback about being part of our JumpStart team. We are so glad you had a positive training experience as we truly see that as an essential component to supporting our team and providing high-quality services for our learners. As an organization, we combine our sick leave and PTO so that our team has more flexibility on how they use their days off. We recognize the importance of time off and have also incorporated ways for staff to receive bonus PTO in addition to their regularly accrued PTO. Our team also receives 80 hours of unpaid time off annually and should have several options when looking at taking time off for their physical and mental health. We have thorough learner and staff illness policies in addition to our infectious disease response plan. We must consider all factors for every situation including if the symptoms are accounted for by another condition as many of our learners have varying medical diagnoses. We do not allow gossip and immediately provide feedback to any employees engaging in it. We are hard to ensure an inclusive and engaging culture.

Pros

- Comprehensive training and onboarding — far more in-depth than other ABA or healthcare agencies I’ve worked for - Clear, consistent expectations covered in training and written out - Supervisors are regularly on-site and available for support, and even if they aren't in the center for a day, they will answer a Slack or text quickly - Other more experienced RBTs and "support" staff are always willing to help or jump in when needed - The leadership seems to genuinely care about employees and kids - Feels like a team working toward a shared mission, not just a job

Cons

- The work can be fast-paced and demanding at times (but that’s the nature of ABA and healthcare) - High standards and accountability might not be a fit for everyone, especially those who just want to "do their own thing"
