Pros

Unlimited overtime, never a quiet shift.

Cons

Working at JRC is like reliving the Stanford Experiment. You have the guards and the inmates and you can watch the egos inflate on the guards. But they fail to realize it's the people behind the cameras that are pulling all the strings. The pay is a joke, entry level employees make 18 an hour, supervisors at 22 (dont worry. They won't actually tell you how much you're making until you're past training). The premise of the facility is the use of ABA. Each student is supposed to have a well drawn out packet outlining how to react to behaviors, expectations, and difficulties. The problem is you're never working with the same students twice. The packets just become a leash that is toted behind the student, picked up every few hours and marked carelessly for the best guess of behaviors that were exhibited. It's hard to mark behaviors when you were in 4 restraints the last hour. When you're hired you're told to buy mechanics gloves to "avoid any 51a's". This is to prevent scratches and hand marks of staff who instead of using proper restraint techniques just attempt to slam children to the ground. Let's not forget the eye in the sky too. Every movement you make is watched, recorded, and used to determine your effectiveness. You're encouraged to write up your fellow employees for any behaviors that don't "follow policies". There is no thing as a work schedule here. First shift is 8-4. You're told to report to a different residence every morning to transport the kids to school. But that also means you need to bring them back. Busses don't leave the school until at least 5 and most the residences are 30-45 minutes away. So 8-5:45. Except, Oops. No staff. You're staying until 11. Injured on shift? That's okay. You can deal with it after. You'll have to fight to get checked at a hospital. I could keep going. JRC is exploiting the employees and the students. Don't be part of it.

Pros

Good colleagues. You make a difference in children's lives. Teaching is fun. Overtime is always available. The pay and benefits are pretty good.

Cons

Favoritism is rampant in administration. Often people are not promoted unless they are are sleeping with someone, or are part of the social circle of the ones in charge. Seniority counts for nothing, and I used to believe this is because they promote on "merit" but I later found out that "merit" can mean they are drinking buddies, went to school together, are related, etc.
