Pros

Fine if you win the graces of management.

Cons

Janssen is a J & J company, It uses calibrations to evaluate employees annually. The rating system is base on a bell-curve. It's highly bias, if a manager doesn't like you it's a way to give you low ratings that work against you if you want to move up in the company. The ratings are like a popularity contest. Everyone is trying to be in good favor with the manager in an unnatural way, this creates bad competition where everyone is working against each other instead of working together and everyone is unhappy in this work environment. It brings out the worst in people. If you can stomach this kind of unnatural work environment then it may be OK for you.

Pros

The other Biotech companies in the area you work A LOT. Centocor respects the work/home balance and the 40 hour / week work schedule. During the summer, employees are allowed summer hours, where you can work 9 hour days and have every other Friday off. Centocor is under the umbrella of the J&J companies so you have J&J benefits which are great. There is a pension plan which is rare today. THere is a site where you have access to J&J products for SUPER cheap. Listerine, Visine, Neutrogena, Rembrant, Aveeno, are some of the big names for pennies on the dollar!

Cons

Since the beginning of the year, during the first quarter at least one person per week has left to go to Merck. It is tough having so many competitors in the area like Merck and GSK that are great pharmaceutical companies as well. Centocor is notoriously a low payer compared to these other companies. Morale continues to be low and management has not really addressed the concerns of its employees. Management instead responds with a huge reorg leaving people further question their future with the company (either forced or voluntary.) Also, the position that I am at, I will gain no level of responsibility for the next 2 promotions.
